Patricia Murphy (Nelson) VIEW PROFILE

Mrs. Patricia E. “Patty” (Murphy) Nelson, age 68, of Utica, passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, November 2, 2010 at the St. Elizabeth Medical Center.
Born in Utica on March 4, 1942, Patricia was the daughter of the late Richard and Margaret (Scherer) Murphy. She was raised in Utica and graduated from local Catholic elementary and high schools. On September 23, 1961 she married Raymond D. Nelson with whom she shared 48 years prior to his passing on March 27, 2010; Patty and Ray were good counterparts in life and they shared a lasting bond of love.
Patty was employed by the Utica Memorial Auditorium during her working years. She was a kind, generous, and loving person who thought of her family as the center of her life and the heart of her happiness. She was also an adoring grandmother who loved to cook and bring her close-knit family, the “Nelson clan”, together around the table. She kept an open home and gave of herself willingly, spending time with the children, including her nieces and nephews. She loved to laugh, and she possessed a great sense of humor. She enjoyed a good cup of coffee, a cigarette, and a relaxing trip to the Family Dollar Store. She was a woman of deep faith who believed in the power of prayer and prayed the rosary daily. She was a parishioner of St. Mary of Mt. Carmel/Blessed Sacrament Parish.
Patty is survived by her daughter, Renee A. Nelson of Utica; and her grandchildren, Danielle C. Nelson, and Duamel R. DeTraglia. Survivors also include her sister, Jacqueline Cooper of Chittenango; numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, cousins, and in-laws, Norma and George Picente of Utica, Gert Dinger of Ilion, Nellis and Janice Nelson, Evelyn Nelson, and Rose Nelson, all of Utica. She also leaves her family friend, Jane Kulczycki, who shared much love and kindness with Patty. She was predeceased by her sister and brother-in-law, Margaret A. “Peggy” and Daniel Guarno; and her in-laws, Ronald F. Nelson, Sr., Robert L. Nelson, Sr., Wesley O. “Wes” Nelson, Gary Cooper, and William “Bill” Dinger.
Visitation will be held Thursday (today) from 4:00-6:00 at the Eannace Funeral Home, Inc., 932 South St., corner of Hammond Ave. By family request, please omit floral offerings. Patty’s funeral service and Celebration of Life will commence on Friday morning at 8:30 from the funeral home and at 9:30 at St. Anthony & St. Agnes Church where her Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated. Interment will take place in St. Agnes Cemetery.
