Sandra Mundschenk (Donaldson)

After graduation from high school, Sandy worked for Mohawk Airlines in the data processing department. On June 5, 1965, she married Terry D. Donaldson, a career US Air Force NCO, who was stationed at Griffiss AFB. Shortly after they were married they were transferred to New York University, New York City. They resided at Fort Hamilton in Bay Ridge. The following year they were transferred to the University of Connecticut, residing in Storrs, Connecticut. Sandy was pregnant with her first child and returned to Utica shortly before their daughter Michelle (Shelly) was born on July 13, 1966, at St. Lukes Hospital. After two years at the University of Connecticut, Sergeant Donaldson was transferred to Peshawar, Pakistan. Sandy was to join her husband in Peshwar, but the government of Pakistan refused to extend the lease on the Air Force installation. As a result, she was unable to join her husband and resided in Utica for 15 months until he returned in August of 1969. Next, they were assigned to Kelly AFB, San Antonio, Texas. Their second daughter, Karen, was born in San Antonio on July 18, 1970. They remained there for one year before being assigned to Wheeler AFB, Hawaii. They resided at Sunset Beach and later in Haliewa on the North Shore. Sandy loved Hawaii and the beaches that were across the street from their homes on the North Shore. On December 1, 1972, Sandy came down with the flu. When her condition didn't improve, she was admitted to the Tripler Army Medical Center on December 4, 1972. She had contracted bacterial and viral pneumonia and passed away December 17, 1972. Sandy was a wonderful, loving wife and mother who is missed by her husband, children, her family in Utica and all the friends she made during her association with the military and college communities.
